I am very honoured, and at the same time humbled, to be the new President of the St. Lucia Calgary Cultural Association. I've got big shoes to fill, and my feet are very small! I am very much looking forward to the journey we are embarking on together for the next year.
First of all, I would like to say "thank-you" to Kenny Husband and Bernie Gbalajobi. On behalf of the entire membership of our Association, I thank you both for the leadership you've given us over the past 30 (Husband -27, Gbalajobi-3) years as President. There are many things I admire about both of you, but one thing that stands out for me is your ability to always look at the bigger picture. With that picture in mind, you both strategically looked for ways to move our Association forward. You cared about how the Association operated now, and you thought about and cared about how the Association might look in the future. As you move into your roles as past Presidents, the new Board and I will appreciate your good advice.
As I take on this new role in our Association, I have a lot to be encouraged about;
I am encouraged by the dedicated members who devote so much of their time to the Association.
I am encouraged that our new executive are creatively exploring ways to retain and attract new members.
I am encouraged by the new faces at our events. And encouraged by new members who understand the benefits of belonging to the Association.
I am encouraged by the way we are interacting with the wider Caribbean community both locally and internationally.
My goal as President is to keep this fine Association on course and moving in the right direction. We are a healthy, vibrant organization, and with your help, I want to keep moving onward and upward.
This is your Association. If over the next year, you have anything you need to talk to me about, feel free to send me an email or give me a call.
Se pou yo gen plezi ansanm!
Thank you and I look forward to working with you over the next year!
